Jo Moore – Worship

What does the role of Worship Deacon entail?

The main focus is to maintain and develop the worship ministry. In practical terms this means overseeing the provision of Sunday worship, liaising with church leaders and other ministries (especially audio visual), providing vision and direction for the worship team, ensuring that we have the equipment and resources needed, and various other administrative tasks.

As worship is not just a Sunday morning activity, but a daily choice to live a life that brings glory to God, I am keen to develop and provide resources to encourage us at other times.

My role, and my heart, is maybe best summarised in the ministry aim that I recently formulated:

To provide environments where people can be refreshed, renewed and inspired to become more like Christ. In doing so we will help to build a community of believers who are empowered to live for Christ and worship in Spirit and in Truth!

How long have you been Worship Deacon and what have you been doing since you took on this role?

Since March 2022. I took on this role after a period without a worship deacon, which also coincided with the Covid lockdown period. Much of my time has been spent resolving issues that had arisen during this time and communicating with people to re-establish the ‘in-person’ ministry. I feel that much of this has now been dealt with and we are in a position to move forward. It is an exciting time and I hope that, as a church, we can rise up in eager anticipation of all that lies ahead!

When and how did you become a Christian?

I became a Christian in 1984 at a church weekend event. We were singing ‘Bind us together’ (yes, I am that old!) and I remember feeling a closeness to God that I had never experienced before. In that moment all that I had heard as a young child became a personal reality. I was baptised in 1986.

How long have you been at BSBC and what is your background before coming to BSBC?

I have lived, and been involved in church, in many places including: Nottinghamshire, Northumbria, Yorkshire, Aberdeen, Houston and I moved to Bishop’s Stortford in 2014. I have served in, and been involved in leading, many ministries. Most of these have been in the areas of worship, discipleship and women’s ministry.

Tell us a few interesting things about you…hobbies?

I am married to Rupert and we have two adult children. I enjoy swimming and occasionally running, reading (mainly crime novels) and spending time with family - when we are all in one place which is becoming increasingly rare!

What do you do outside the Church?

I am an Occupational Therapist specialising in mental health. This is mainly one-to-one contact in people’s own homes and covers all mental health conditions.

Is there anything we can pray about for you and/or your role?

I love my job but it can be mentally and emotionally exhausting…this impacts the energy that I have left to invest in ministry. Please pray that I will remember to rely on the Holy Spirit’s empowering and not try to push through in my own strength (which is definitely limited)!

Please pray that I will have wisdom as I lead this ministry area. That I would be willing to follow where God leads and be patient when He says ‘wait’.

Finally, please pray that we will continue to grow as a team, spiritually and numerically.

Last, but not least:

If you are interested in joining the Worship Team - please speak to me or Steve Lee. You will not be dropped in at the deep end and expected to start playing / singing on a Sunday morning straight away!
