What We Believe

Bishop’s Stortford Baptist Church (BSBC) is an Evangelical Baptist Church. God has called us into his family so that we can be part of His plan to save us. He has made this possible because His Son, Jesus Christ, died for our sins on the cross and rose again from the dead so that we might have new life.

Our Beliefs

  • Our vision is to be a community of disciples of Jesus Christ that live out what the Bible teaches us, so that God’s plan to save the world may be accomplished.

  • Our mission is to be wholehearted disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • Acts 2:42–47 shows us that the Church exists for five purposes: Worship, Discipleship, Fellowship, Outreach, Service.

  • Because we are called to put God’s word into action we value:

The Holy Spirit. We can do nothing without His power and presence in our lives, and we cannot grow in holiness without Him; so we will seek Him always.

The Bible because it is God’s word. We must study it so that we know how to live for Christ.

Because we are called to be whole-hearted in our discipleship we value:

The need to keep growing as Christians to become like Jesus.

Prayer in our individual lives and together as the Church.

The need to listen to what God is telling us to do and put it into action

Because we are called to be a community of disciples we value:

The love of Christ that unites us and helps us see people as He does. We respect the unique value of each individual.

The Body of Christ, the Church, which we are all called to be part of and to serve in.

The worldwide Church of Christ. We are part of a Body that stretches around the world so we want to serve our brothers and sisters.

Because we are called to follow God’s plan to save the world we value:

The Cross where Jesus died. It is the only hope for every one of us and its truth must be shared effectively with all ages.

Jesus’ call to go and make disciples of all nations.

Giving glory to God, in every way we can. We seek excellence in everything that we do.

The need to let Jesus’ light shine at home, at work and in serving our communities.
