We meet on Thursday afternoons in term time from 1.30pm for a time of fellowship, followed by a Bible study. We finish in time to pick up children from school. Our meeting place is usually Birchanger, but sometimes elsewhere, so please phone to check before you come.
Over the last few months we have been watching and discussing “More Than Conquerors – A Call to Radical Discipleship,” a DVD by Simon Guillebaud made up of short action films. We all enjoyed the presentation and challenge of this series of films. We’re now moving on to look at The Apostles Creed in more detail and are watching a teaching DVD made by Dr Steve Brady, Head of Moorlands Bible College. The teaching sessions are split into sections with a discussion question after each section. If this becomes too theological for us, we will have a break and listen to Jennifer Rees Larcombe’s two-part testimony, also on DVD. We also plan to use a “Reaching Out” resource from the Diocese of Oxford; it is designed to help individuals and Christian communities reflect on the nature of pastoral care and to improve their practice, using drama depicting true-to-life scenarios, followed up with discussion.
As a group we are comfortable in each other’s company and are able to speak our minds, “rubbing the rough edges off each other”. We appreciate hearing each other’s views and opinions on the Bible, faith and life in general. Visitors and new members are always welcome, and the group has included people from places as far away as North Carolina and Ukraine. At the end of our time together, we pray for each other’s needs, as well as wider church and world issues.
