Psalm 117: In the Midst
Praise the Lord, all you nations;
extol him, all you peoples.
For great is his love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.Praise the Lord.
Psalm 117
It’s a good idea to memorise some scripture, it’s a good idea to memorise some lines from the Psalms. If you want to begin that practice, Psalm 117 is a good place to start. There’s an obvious reason for that – it’s the shortest chapter in the Bible – but there are other reasons as well. In just a few short verses the Psalm calls us back to what is central, to what we really need to hear again and again in the midst of all life’s varied events and all our fluctuating feelings.
In the midst of anxiety
In the midst of blessing
In the midst of confusion
In the midst of danger
In the midst of enemies
In the midst of fear
In the midst of hope
In the midst of illness
In the midst of joy
In the midst of knowing
In the midst of loneliness
In the midst of mourning
In the midst of the night
In the midst of opposition
In the midst of praise
In the midst of quietness
In the midst of repentance
In the midst of silence
In the midst of tears
In the midst of unfaithfulness
In the midst of victory
In the midst of weakness
In the midst of x (the great unknown)
In the midst of zeal
In the midst of it all
’Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.‘
