Pastor’s Thoughts – September 2015

Dear friends,

Welcome back!

I’m sure many of you haven’t actually been away but I can’t help the feeling that September is the start of a new term and a new year for the church. It just has that feeling that something exciting is about to happen. Hopefully that feeling won’t be disappointed as we have much happening over the next few weeks.

Firstly I want to welcome Heather Martin who is joining us as our volunteer youth intern. Please take some time to get to know Heather and make her feel at home here. It is great to have her and I’m praying that we will be a blessing to her – I know she will be a blessing to us.

We are beginning a new series on Sunday mornings entitled The Big Picture.

What we are going to do in this is take an overview of the Bible starting at Genesis and ending at Revelation, and we’re going to do it all in 9 weeks! Now obviously we’re not doing that verse by verse but we will be looking at the big themes that emerge and trying to help everyone understand how it all links together. The Bible is not a random series of writings but has an underlying narrative that we need to understand.

Sunday teaching will be backed up by our midweek life groups. This will give you an opportunity to explore the themes in greater depth and understand how they apply to our daily lives. So now is the time to think about being a part of a life group, or of renewing your membership and involvement. Life groups matter because they give us an opportunity to discuss God’s word and apply it to our lives. We can talk about the things that have blessed us and challenged us. We can commit to pray for one another and to care for one another. Life groups are where truth meets life. If you are not connected to one then now is the time to think carefully about getting involved.

19th – 20th September is our Big Welcome weekend with our Autumn Party on the Saturday from 12 noon until 4.00 pm and a special service on the Sunday. We want to invite our friends, neighbours and contacts to join us for these events. The Saturday is packed with things that will be fun to do together and full details are available elsewhere in News and Views. We also need some volunteers to help run things. Sunday will be a service for those not used to going to church or who haven’t been for some time. Please do use the invitations that are available and ask your friends to join us.

Alpha also begins again this month so please invite any friends that might be interested to come along. Invitations are available in the Gathering Area.

Finally our Harvest Festival will be on 4th October with a speaker from Tear Fund. As we did last year, this will be followed by a Harvest Lunch so please put the date in your diary and sign up so that we can organise the catering.

So plenty going on. We’ve also got some Network events and hopefully a baptism as well (I’ll announce details of that as soon as possible but if the Lord has challenged you about being baptised please come and speak to me). For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise (Ps 96:4).

Yours in Christ,
