Bishop's Stortford Baptist Church is an evangelical, purpose driven church, seeking to be a community of believers living according to the Bible's teaching. Our congregation is around 200 on Sunday mornings and we have a membership of around the same number, although many people attend who are not members. Our ministry and worship style caters for all ages and for people from all walks of life.
Our church was founded in 1819. For over 100 years, we had worshipped in a church building that, sadly, was in considerable need of repair and refurbishment. As the location made it unsuitable for either expansion or redesign, in 1999 a decision was taken in faith to sell this building and search for a more suitable site or building. Since then we have worshipped at The Bishop's Stortford High School every Sunday morning. We have a church hall in Portland Road , Bishop's Stortford, which is used for Sunday evening services, for meetings, and for our regular Toddlers & Co sessions. Our popular Friday night youth club, called Zone, also meets at the church hall.
As we are the main Baptist church in the area, we draw our congregation from a number of villages and towns outside of Bishop's Stortford itself, most notably Stansted Mountfitchet and Little Hallingbury.
